According to terms of applying for purchase or repayment of investment shares funds are subdivided as follows:

Unit investment funds with an open end
Payment and repayment of shares is carried out daily on the working days.
Interval unit investment funds
Payment and repayment of shares is carried out according to dates, mentioned id fund rules, but not rare that once in per year during two weeks.
Unit investment funds with a closed end
Payment of shares is carried out during formation of the fund. Repayment of shares is carried out after the end date of the fund or during life of the fund, if such condition provided by the rules of the fund.

Depending on direction of investment a few categories of funds may be distinguished:

securities funds; bond funds; blend funds; money market funds; fund of funds, real estate funds; venture investment funds; mortgage funds; index funds; direct investment funds.
